Frontiers of Medicine 2014, Volume 8, Issue 2,   Pages 241-249 doi: 10.1007/s11684-014-0328-0

Abstract:

Approximately 70% of newly diagnosed bladder tumors are non-muscle invasive bladder cancer (NMIBC). NMIBC accounts for approximately 80% of total bladder cancer cases. Bacillus Calmette-Guérin (BCG) instillation and maintenance is considered as the standard adjuvant treatment for superficial bladder cancer. A number of randomized studies have focused on the benefit of maintenance therapy following initial BCG induction. To provide further insights into the effect of intravesical instillation on recurrence in patients with NMIBC, we analyzed this relationship by conducting an updated detailed meta-analysis. Evidence suggested that adjuvant intravesical BCG with maintenance treatment is significantly effective for the prophylaxis of tumor recurrence in patients with NMIBC.

Yu Han,Yu-fei Li,Hu Cheng

Frontiers of Engineering Management 2014, Volume 1, Issue 4,   Pages 353-357 doi: 10.15302/J-FEM-2014051

Abstract: Traditional project management often ignores problems arising after project completion such as value changing, functional decline, waste of resources and environmental pollution during the operation and dismantling process. This paper advances the concept of “post-project”, builds a framework for post-project management with case analysis, as the social development and new requirements for project management by environmental protection. Post-project refers to a project which no longer possesses normal value, because of loss after use, inability to adapt to new requirements, artificial destruction, damage beyond control, and deprivation of value after the completion of the project. Post-project management encompasses a series of management and technical activities including updating, reforming, removal, recovery, and recycling. The process of post-project management is composed of classification and characteristics of post-projects, management decisions, implementation, and evaluation. Post-project management can realize the sustainable development of project and society.

Using PSO to update pheromone for the traveling salesman problem

Cheng Weiming,Tang Zhenmin,Zhao Chunxia,Chen Debao

Strategic Study of CAE 2008, Volume 10, Issue 7,   Pages 165-168

Abstract:

Using pheromone of ant coloney system as reference, a novel method of solving TSP problem is proposed. That is using particle swarm optimization ( PSO) . PSO is used because of its simple operation, easy implementation and faster speed. In order to improve the popularity of the particle swarm, make the particle swam not to homogeneous too fast and decrease the possibility of local constrain, the algorithm decides the number of degenerated particles based on a designated popularity function.Experiment results and comparison studies have demonstrated that our work is useful.

Map Update in Raster Mode by Means of Aerial and Space Images

Lin Zongjian

Strategic Study of CAE 2000, Volume 2, Issue 4,   Pages 43-47

Abstract:

To meet the urgent needs of updating 1:10 000 scale and 1 :50 000 scale topographic map for the whole territory of China, an integrated techinique for key elements revision is proposed, in which the topographic map is updated in raster mode through overlaying the precisely geo-rectified aerial or satellite image on the digitized map. The following issues are specially presented: 1) The scanning resolution of topographic map digitization in raster mode, which is not the same as the one in vector mode. 2) The concept of image array and graphic control point, instead of traditional pinpoint control point. 3) A local registration and adjustment method for rectifying aerial and space image using DRG without DEM. 4) Quantitative image interpretation by the guide of qualitative analysis. 5) The semi-automatic metrod for extraction of structural information from remote sensing image. Finally, a software developed on the basis of the proposed technique and its function are described, at the same time, an experiment result of 600 scenes of 1-50 000 scale topographic maps revision using the developed softwarte is presented.

An Update on the Efficacy and Functionality of Probiotics for the Treatment of Non-Alcoholic Fatty Liver Article

Mingfei Yao, Lingling Qv, Yanmeng Lu, Baohong Wang, Björn Berglund, Lanjuan Li

Engineering 2021, Volume 7, Issue 5,   Pages 679-686 doi: 10.1016/j.eng.2020.01.017

Abstract:

Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), which has a global prevalence of 20%–33%, has become the main cause of chronic liver disease. Except for lifestyle medication, no definitive medical treatment has been established so far, making it urgent to find effective strategies for the treatment of NAFLD. With the identification of the significant role played by the gut microbiota in the pathogenesis of NAFLD, studies on probiotics for the prevention and treatment of NAFLD are increasing in number. Bacteria from the Bifidobacterium and Lactobacillus genera constitute the most widely used traditional probiotics. More recently, emerging next-generation probiotics (NGPs) such as Akkermansia muciniphila and Faecalibacterium prausnitzii have also gained attention due to their potential as therapeutic options for the treatment of NAFLD. This review provides an overview of the effects of oral administration of traditional probiotics and NGPs on the development and progress of NAFLD. The mechanisms by which probiotics directly or indirectly affect the disease are illustrated, based on the most recent animal and clinical studies. Although numerous studies have been published on this topic, further research is required to comprehensively understand the specific underlying mechanisms among probiotics, gut microbiota, and NAFLD, and additional large-scale clinical trials are required to evaluate the therapeutic efficacy of probiotics for the treatment of NAFLD, as well as the safety of probiotics in the human body.

Supplements on Spontaneous Pregnancy and Semen Parameters in Male Infertility: A Systematic Review Update Article

Jian Li, Qi Wu, Ernest Hung Yu Ng, Ben Willem J. Mol, Xiao Ke Wu, Chi Chiu Wang

Engineering 2022, Volume 16, Issue 9,   Pages 198-209 doi: 10.1016/j.eng.2021.07.009

Abstract:

In this study, we used a network meta-analysis (NMA) to compare the effectiveness of medicines and supplements for idiopathic male infertility and to identify the best treatment. Medline, Excerpta Medica Database (EMBASE), Ovid, and China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI), were searched for the period from January 1990 to June 2021 using the keywords "male infertility," "medical therapy," "supplement/nutrient therapy," and related terms. Studies involving randomized controlled trials (RCTs) investigating medicines (mainly follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH), androgen, and clomiphene/tamoxifen) or supplements (mainly zinc, selenium, vitamin C or E, carnitine, coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10), or combined treatment) for idiopathic infertile men were selected for meta-analysis. Preferred reporting items for systematic reviews and meta-analysis (PRISMA) was used for data extraction, and a risk-of-bias tool and grades of recommendation, assessment, development, and evaluation (GRADE) system adapted to the NMA were employed to assess the quality of the evidence. The primary outcomes were live birth and spontaneous pregnancy rate (SPR). The secondary outcomes were sperm parameters (including concentration, progressive motility, and morphology) and side effects. In total, 65 RCTs involving 7541 men with sperm abnormalities but normal hormone levels were included. A total of 36 studies reported SPR but only three reported live birth rates. The quality of the included studies was found to be moderate to high. Compared with a placebo or being untreated, carnitine plus vitamins significantly improved SPR (relative risk (RR) = 3.7, 95% confidence interval (CI), 1.6–8.5); fatty acids significantly increased sperm concentrations (mean difference (MD) = 12.5 × 106 mL–1, 95%CI, 3.1 × 106–22.0 × 106); and selective estrogen receptor modulators (SERM) plus CoQ10 significantly improved sperm progressive motility (MD = 11.0%, 95%CI, 0.1%–21.9%) and normal sperm morphology (MD = 11.0%, 95%CI, 4.6%–17.4%). The most optimal intervention was carnitine plus vitamins and fatty acids for SPR and sperm concentrations, respectively, even after excluding trials at a high risk of bias. Compared with a placebo or being untreated, FSH (RR = 4.9, 95%CI, 1.1–21.3) significantly increased SPR, whereas SERM plus kallikrein increased sperm concentration (MD = 16.5 × 106 mL–1, 95%CI, 1.6 × 106–31.4 × 106), and SERM plus CoQ10 significantly improved sperm progressive motility (MD = 11.3%, 95%CI, 7.3%–15.4%) and normal morphology (MD = 11.2%, 95%CI, 5.4%–16.9%) in men with oligoasthenozoospermia (OA). In terms of side effects, fatty acids and pentoxifylline were associated with foul breath and/or a bad taste (RR = 8.1, 95%CI, 1.0–63.5) and vomiting (RR = 8.0, 95%CI, 1.0–63.0), respectively. In conclusion, the optimal treatment for male infertility for live birth is still unknown. Carnitine plus vitamins and FSH are likely to be better than other therapies in achieving successful spontaneous pregnancy in couples overall and in couples with men with OA, respectively. The efficacy of other treatments on pregnancy outcomes warrants further verification.
